Subject: Online Bookstore for Distance Learning Students
Date: May 1, 2007
As you know, Region 7-Terre Haute has responsibility for the new online bookstore for students in online courses. They will be hosting a bookstore pilot this summer, during which time they hope to work out operational and logistical issues to ensure an efficient operation in fall 2007. The summer pilot will provide books only for the courses that have been converted to a single statewide version. In the fall, the online bookstore will stock books for all online courses. The URL for the online bookstore is:
http://bookstore.ivytech.edu.
In general, the online bookstore is meant to serve students in all online courses, regardless of which region is their home or originating site. We anticipate that your region will order their books for online courses through the Region 7 bookstore, with one exception, as originally stated in the memo of January 29:
If the same book is being used for both the face-to-face section and the online section, the bookstore at the originating region may stock for both.
In some cases, the online course may require certain supplemental materials that are not required in the face-to-face sections, even though the book is the same. These “bundled” products can be identified on the Infonet/Academic Affairs/Distance Education website.
Developing an online bookstore to serve distance education students more efficiently has been a recommendation for several years. We look forward to seeing that goal become a reality so that the College’s students can be served as conveniently and efficiently as possible. We know that you will do all you can to help make it a success.

The deadline for summer registration is Friday, May 4th by 5 p.m. - if you miss the deadline, you will be dropped from your summer classes.
Some students should be aware of minor curriculum changes that may affect their scheduling. Due to state-wide curriculum changes, our region has dropped two courses: VIS 111 Drawing for Visualization and PHO 104 Basic Photography. If you needed either of these courses for your concentration (specialty), we can arrange for a substitute course; just speak with your program chair to discuss options.
By dropping these two courses there will be some content changes to some existing courses and an addition of VIS 213 Advanced Digital Imaging, a third imaging course (basically a Photoshop 3). VIS 102 Fundamentals of Imaging will include some basic photography, so that all students in Visual Communications have at least some background with Photography and the ability to obtain quality images.
See the courses link for curriculum updates (to come soon).
There will be a IUPUI New Media Information Session on Thursday, February 22 (2007) from 3:30- 4:30pm in T308. This would be helpful for anyone who is transferring, wants to transfer or is even thinking of transferring to Informatics/New Media.
We hope you all had fun in bidding for these computers, even if you did not get a system. Below you will see information being updated for payment and pickup of your new/used computer.
The Visual Communications Department has negotiated with CTS and the Library to hold a special "IvyBay Auction" of our lab's old Apple computers for our current students, faculty and staff. You'll need to create an account with your information: full name, current address, phone, etc. that is in our Student Information System.
Register and Log-in at the auction site:
This event will take place on Monday, February 13th, 2006 in the Statehouse Rotunda, Indianapolis, IN. If you would like to attend with a group of Ivy Tech Visual Communications students, please contact Alisa Fox (afox@ivtech.edu). Registration and Program Details may be found at: http://www.INArtsAdvocates.org
Ivy Tech has a drop off location for new items and supplies that will be sent, once the trailer is full, South to aid those in need. Since many students do not have transportation to go purchase these supplies and bring them to the drop off location, the Visual Communications department will pool cash donations from students and bulk purchase supplies at COSTCO, then deliver these supplies at the supply truck. If you would like to donate cash for supplies, please see Dan Osmundson in T314 of the Glick Family Technology Center by 1:30 p.m. next Thursday, September 15th.
We began our annual Exhibit this year, and our first event was a success. Winners took home medals, while honorable mentions received certificates. For full details, including pictures of entries and winners, click on Student above and then Exhibit.
