Visual Communications : about

The Visual Communications program is one of the newest programs in the Central region. The program was approved in Fall 1999 and has been very successful since its inception. Enrollment has grown significantly every semester, and totals over 200 in only its third year. We are currently one of the largest programs in the state.

The Visual Communications program has three concentrations, one for Graphic Design, one for Web Design (previously named "Web and Interactive" and "Multimedia") and one for Web Developer (previously "Webmaster Designer"). These concentrations are in great demand in our region and around the world. Designing interactive content for the Internet, CD-ROM and DVD is becoming a very popular medium in the new digital age. Yesterday, companies were forced to have static websites. Today they demand to have one that is animated and interactive. Tomorrow, companies will want a site with video, 3D animation and so on. As this technology grows, so does the demand for qualified workers to design, configure and implement this new content.

Students entering the program are exposed to a broad technical core of courses representing key topics such as organizing the visual field, color theory and application, image acquisition and manipulation, the computer as a powerful tool, the professional visual artist as a business person, and the exit portfolio.

The Visual Communications program awards Associate of Science degrees (AS, transferable to IUPUI), Associate of Applied Science degrees and career certificates with concentrations in the areas of Graphic Design, Web Design and Web Development.
